How has Our Current Healthcare Plan Affected the STD Rate in NYC?

Because of our blog’s dedication to improving the quality of healthcare around New York City, I have created a presentation specifically focusing on the rate of STDs in New York City and how our current lack of a consistent healthcare plan has contributed to the heightened rates. After researching the various types of sexually transmitted diseases that have been extremely prevalent in New York City today, I felt like I needed to create this presentation as a way to show our viewers and everyday people the ways that our society has attempted to put a cap on the soaring STD case numbers.

From all of the research I have done and compiled, I have discovered that the rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis have exponentially increased since 2013. Because of this increase in some of the most common STDs, eight low to no cost STD clinics are being set up to help people with their infections. Another source also suggests that once someone has contracted a sexually transmitted disease, their significant other (assuming that they have one) should be notified as a way to contain the disease until it can be further treated. These efforts being made to reduce the STD rate show that although a lack of healthcare has contributed to why so many people don’t treat their infections, the clinics being made and improved in order to help these people are a great step forward.
